Weekends are for relaxing, rejuvenating and enjoying your favorite coffee. We often experiment with different beans on the weekends and today we decided to open the all Indian espresso blend Chikka. This batch was roasted in January. We wanted to see if the Coffee is still any good in May.

The Coffee still has the same strong aroma, the same bold taste and it still reminds me of Chikmagalur ❤️

How to make filter coffee… 

In India, the traditional coffee recipe is known as “filter coffee” or just “kaapi”. and it’s always a blend of specialty Indian coffee and chicory root powder. 

The golden ratio of coffee to chicory is 80 to 20. It has been our family standard for five generation, and we think it brings the perfect balance of heavy, rich, velvety texture, and mouthfeel with long lasting flavor.

filter coffee can be brewed in a traditional, Indian coffee filter or a mocha pot. Add some milk and just a tiny bit of sugar. make sure to enjoy that coffee while it’s hot.

Tasting session aftermath….

We got a super duper nano batch of fermented beans this year. Only 10lb. Our first experiment at anaerobic coffee. We wanted to compare it against other fermented beans. 

We roasted just 4 8oz bags from this nano lot on 4/16 and were too eager to taste it and ended up opening a bag today 4/19. Brewed it the old fashioned way. 

Very pleased with the results considering this was our first attempt at fermentation but still a long way to go. 

We have 3 more bags, if you’re into trying something experimental..

Wild elephants wandering off into the coffee farms has become more frequent nowadays.

This elephant wandered off into a coffee estate in sakleshpura mountains. It’s roughly 30 minutes drive from our coffee farms. 

Last month a herd of wild elephants passed through our coffee farm, destroying banana and coffee plants on their way.

Coffee grows in the mountains. Elephants were on these mountains before we started cultivating this land. While we recognize that we share the mountains with them, it’s also terrifying when they visit the farms.
